We focus on Texans with credible innocence claims or severely disproportionate sentences. Our docket includes capital and non-capital cases involving discredited forensics, withheld evidence, coerced statements, juvenile offenders tried as adults, and sentences that vastly exceed a person’s actual role or intent. We pair legal strategy with parole and reentry support so relief, when won, is sustainable.

Clinton Young

Clinton’s 2003 conviction and death sentence were overturned in 2021. After a 2024 retrial, he was sentenced to life. His case is now on direct appeal.

Roman Flores

Wrongfully convicted of a Houston murder and sentenced to life in 2000. The U.S. Supreme Court denied review in 2026.

Miguel Martinez

Convicted as a minor of capital murder under the law of parties in 1992, we are still trying to bring him home.

Brandon

Convicted of capital murder in Houston in 2005 and serving life, case is being investigated.

Convicted of DUI and evading arrest and sentenced to 50 years on each charge. After the CCA denied relief, we filed a new appeal. His case is now back before the CCA.

Death-penalty case. The Foundation conducted a mitigation investigation in federal court. The case was sent back to state court to review that evidence.

Michael M.

Charged with an alleged robbery that never occurred after important information was withheld. The case was ultimately dismissed, and Michael was released.
